Yeah I know him from home. [Maybe that's suspicious...] My city got invaded by aliens and he's one of the people who came around to help fight them

You're from a world like that? Did anyone you know get hurt in the invasion?

Yup. Superheroes and invasions are kind of a regular thing where I'm from. But we got lucky. Everyone I know was okay afterwards and that's the important thing

I'm glad. That is the important thing. As long as everyone comes through, you can face the next one together.

As normal as it could be I guess. I mean being sent to a different world and living in a different city isn't what I'd call normal but at least the whole superhero/superpowers thing is the usual

No wonder you don't treat us any differently. It was very strange to us to get used to being able to be open about Persona.

Do you have any powers?

Not all metahumans are that open about their powers either but yeah it's not like your Personas are THAT weird to me.

I've got a body scanning thing. So like I can tell you if you should be eating more vegetables or whatever

I understand; it's something personal. At home, most of us think we're going insane when it happens the first time. Akihiko-san found Junpei crying in a convenience store.

[Oh look, it's the only person Minato removes honorifics for. He pretty much just says Junpei-kun as a very blithe joke.]

Eh it's okay. I keep it off unless I think it's something I have to know. Otherwise it's just an invasion of other peoples privacy

I understand. Was that something you had at home? I probably should've asked about this a while ago.

Nah the powers are new. It's not that important anyway since it's not like everyone goes around telling each other about their powers here. It's normal for us anyway

It would be nice if we got to choose our powers though

[Indirect isn't really Minato's style, that's for sure. It's also not his style to hold things like this against anyone. If/when he ever finds out, he won't hold the lying against him.]

I tell a lot of people about my powers... It seems to come up. Is that weird?

It would be. Although I'm sure if that were the case, Shinjiro-senpai would never want his back. [Which Minato thinks is really very sad, even if Shinji doesn't.]

Would that really be such a bad thing? If he could just choose not to have them?

Rejecting your Persona means rejecting yourself. If senpai can't find a way to live with Castor, he'll never be happy with his life. It's a reflection of how he feels.

Is it as simple as that? Would he even feel that way about himself if it wasn't for what castor did in the first place?

It's circular. He never would have lost control of Castor if he didn't feel that way in the first place. It might be helpful for you to remove the Persona part. Even if we didn't have Persona, self-loathing will be outwardly expressed; the person would make a mistake or find a reason to perpetuate their loathing.

You probably know someone like that, I'm guessing. Removing their powers wouldn't fix the problem then, either.

You don't think it would make it any easier to deal with without having Castor to worry about then? It's not like I didn't already know that Shinji's got some stuff to work through no matter what

Until he was Ported out and came back, the time you've known him, he hasn't had Castor, right? How was he?

Not great. But he's gotten a lot better

But no it's because he worked hard at it. Might have been easier for him without Castor might not have been. Only way to know is to straight up ask the guy

It might have been easier not having Castor, but I think it was having Akihiko-san and you around, supporting him, that did it. And because after his death, Shinjiro-senpai had a form of closure; he's able to face it in a way he never was in the past.

[He still has so much to learn about Personas, about how they work, and what they mean. He's comfortable to continue leeching off of Minato and Ken.]

But you're right about one thing. Having people around you who care about you is always going to make things easier. And now that he's got Castor it's not going to go away anytime soon so he may as well make peace with him

Yeah. I talked to him about it. Practicing summoning will be good, so I offered, and he said he had another friend helping him, too.

But... I also think it would just be sad if a Persona-user were never comfortable with their Persona. That's probably because I'm so close to mine, though.

It's good you're close to yours. And while it's still around I think it would be good for Shinji to actually accept his too. But if what you're saying about it being a reflection of himself is true then that's probably going to take a while
