The kids Killua and I beat up. We went to visit them to apologize and give them flowers and they looked at us weird and said "no homo". I mean, they said other stuff too but that's the important part. Now Killua won't stop saying it.

Ay. Really?

[He sounds a little pained that these twelve year old brats are going full no-homo when they're brought flowers with broken bones... though that probably means they're not too scared of them, right? Right??]

Did Killua figure out what it meant before saying it?

[The seemed way more disturbed than scared, though fear was definitely present.]

No. He said he already knew what it meant but I don't think he does. He keeps using it instead of "that's cool" and stuff.

Oh, no. [Jaime groans, and though Gon can't see it, his face has been firmly planted in one hand.]

Okay, to explain this we gotta back up a bit. Um... you obviously know that some boys like boys, and some girls like boys, right? Like, romantically?

Ah-huh.

[Wait.

Oh my god.]-Oh. That's what "homo" means?

Yeah. Um, technically.

[Does he have to explain homophobia to this little kid from another world? He probably should.]

But don't call them homo, 'cause it's rude. See, I don't know what it's like where you're from, but here - and where I'm from - some people think that boys liking boys and girls liking girls is wrong.

[He doesn't really get why homo is an insult but whatever. He'll go with it. It's not like he understands a whole lot about this place.] That's dumb. Why do they care? It's not affecting them in any way.

[He sounds immensely relieved that he doesn't have to explain to Gon why being gay isn't a bad thing, because he's totally not equipped for that.]

People suck sometimes. That's one of the ways some of them suck. [Sorry, Gon. You're not going to get the religious explanation out of him, because this Catholic kid doesn't feel like bending over backwards to talk about the Bible, but different parts of the Bible, and oh no, he hasn't been to Church in half a year.]

So when they say no homo, that's like - them trying to say that they don't like boys, 'cause they think it's a bad thing. You guys are probably better off not hanging out with them.

So they're jerks.

[So blunt.] I guess that's why everyone seemed happy when we knocked them out. I thought that was kind of weird.

[There's a brief pause.]

I'm gonna have to tell Killua.

[khajidont]

Yup. They're jerks.

[That may be uncharitable, knowing that these kids are all of twelve years old and have been raised on a steady diet of their parents' thinking, but he's not about to tell Gon and Killua to go out of their way to reform them.]

What're you gonna tell him?

[He's asking mostly because he's wondering if he should talk to Killua, just in case Gon's explanation of it errs on the side of simplicity.]

[His shrug is verbal.]

To stop saying it, I guess. He'll be embarrassed, but I think he'll do it. If not, I'll just tell him to talk to you. He trusts you.

[It's a little amazing, how casually Gon throws little tidbits like that out there, but Jaime knows it's true - Killua does trust him, for some reason.]

Yeah, I know. I'm glad he does. Just tell him to come talk to me if he has any questions about why he shouldn't say that or anything else, okay? You too, obviously, but you're already doing it. I'm lucky enough to be from a world that's pretty similar to this one.

[gonfreaky]

Yeah, I know. You're a good friend, Jaime. Thanks.

[He's about to hang up when a question occurs to him. Pausing, he considers asking it before deciding to go ahead.]

... Do you ever miss it? Your home, I mean.

[khajidont]

Yeah, I do.

[Why lie about it? He doesn't hate it here, but he misses home. He misses it every day.]

I think a little homesickness is what you'd expect outta being brought here, though. Why, do you miss your home?

[gonfreaky]

Just the people. [A long list of them.] I spend a lot of time traveling now, being here just feels normal.

You should tell me about your world sometime, Jaime. Maybe it'll help you miss it less.

The people are the most important part.

[He'd be okay living somewhere else as long as he had the people who are important to him by his side - but he wouldn't want them here.]

Thanks, Gon - I might do just that. [It won't make him miss them any less, but he's always putting his nose into other people's business in their own worlds. He should return the favour every now and again.]

Is there anything you wanted to know?

Hmm. [There's a long pause as he thinks. Truthfully, there's a lot he wants to ask but he's wary. If Jaime misses his home he doesn't want to rub it in-questions about family are therefore prohibited. Would asking about his home be any different? Maybe if he broadened the question.]

Where do you live? Not the city or anything-I won't know about that. Can you tell me what it looks like?

They've actually got a version of my city here - and it looks nearly the same, flying cars aside. Me and a friend went to visit it a couple months back. They got some pictures of it on google. Like, uhhh... this.
