Well I mean it's a job where I know I'd be helping people which is a plus

The point of a job is earning money, not having fun. Obviously it oughtn't be miserable, but really. Earning money ought to be amongst the primary reasons you take a job.

I dunno there's a lot of people out there who have big dreams about what they want to do for a living.

What do you want to do? Or did you want to do, if you weren't busy with the changing the world gig?

Honestly, I haven't the faintest idea. If I weren't involved with it all, I suppose I'd have become a secretary like I was supposed to.

I seem a bit too energetic for a desk job, I suppose? Honestly, though, I wouldn't have minded it, really. It's one of the best jobs a commoner can have - it's safe, the pay is good. Butlers get paid better, but they also don't get to go home at the end of the day. If the world had been different, it would have been OK.

Yeah something like that. It's definitely not a bad job or anything just not one I'd think of

But what if you weren't a commoner?

Then I'd be a magician and the best thing I could do would be to find some hut out on some windswept island where I couldn't do any harm to anyone.

Their authority (and their right to jobs as businessmen and doctors) comes from their ability to use magic, and magic comes from enslaving spirits. It's POSSIBLE to use magic on the basis of an equal partnership with the spirits, but all of them are brainwashed to think that's not possible. If I'd been raised as a magician, I'd probably think the same way.

The imbalance would be bad in the first place even without that extra factor in there but that takes it over the top. And that's what you're fighting to change

Yeah. That's what I'm fighting to change. Not just for us commoners, either...They take kids when they're just five or six years old and train them to be slavers. Train them to be friendless, suspicious, hateful. It's for them, too - all those poor magicians who think this is the way to live. And then become doctors and businessmen and prime ministers and teach the next generation to be just like them.
