It's not cheating, it's called me being in the other room. What kind of bike are we talking here, exactly?

Well, it's not even really a bike. Not to me anyway...

[He's laying on the sweet talk pretty thick.]

It's...what do they call it? Vespa?

A vespa's a bike. And Ken's thirteen. And now that he has it, no way is he not going to ride it.

[he is going to get this kid the best protective gear on the market.]

You know how dangerous that is, right?

[He's not one to talk; he was taught how to drive by Shepard of all people.]

What's the big deal? I learned to drive around thirteen.

And Ken's mentally older than all of us combined!

Yeah, key word there? Mentally. He fights because he has to, but... there's a reason why kids usually aren't pulled into war, and that's not just because of their minds. They're more delicate than we are, too. He's still growing, man.

That's why I got the vespa!

[That V sound is killing him right now.]

C'mon, you trust him to travel halfway across the world to Antarctica but a scooter is too much for him?

I trust him to do what he thinks is necessary, especially when there are other people looking out for him -- not streets full of drivers who might mow him over, or on a bike where he'll go through a growth spurt and have to learn how to lean in the turns again, or, you know, just get it taken away entirely by the cops.

Trusting him doesn't mean I trust everyone else on the road. I'm not planning on taking it away from him, even if I could, but I don't think it's a good idea.

You worry too much.

I'll be teaching him--and if there's one thing I know how to read, it's the road.

[There's a soft little hmph.]

Even this world thinks so. It gave me my bike as a power. It's a part of me.

You always gonna be with him when he rides?

What I teach him will be.

Doesn't change the fact that he's thirteen. I know that's when you learned, but the way we've done things isn't always the way it should be done.

[He lets out a sigh, little more than a quick exhale of air.]

[It's whispered, muttered, even. Honestly starting to regret even telling Jaime. Why DID he? Some kind of unspoken vow about keeping in contact whenever it had something to do with Ken.

Look at him, trying to actually reason with him. When did he start doing this? His voice when he speaks up next is muffled, as if running a hand over his mouth.]

Soooo put elbow pads on him. [A little too cheerily.]

I hope him not having any protective gear was ever in the cards. I'll be talking to him about that.
